Period Piece

Period Piece, A Cambridge Childhood, Gwen Raverat's memoir of growing up in the enormous and quirky Darwin clan, was first published in 1952 by Faber & Faber. Regarded by many as a classic childhood memoir, with its wit and self-deprecation, it is still in print 65 years later, in three different editions. What completes the book's perfection is Raverat's pen-and-ink illustrations which add to its infectious humour and charm.

On publication, the book received many rave reviews. The Times Literary Supplement: Period Piece is an altogether delightful book.  This, one feels, is the right way to portray one's family scene and oneself when young; the humour is infectious, the figures endearingly ridiculous and admirable human beings.

For the first time we are now able to make the drawings available as stand-alone images to be mounted and framed. Our high-quality giclêe reproductions come slightly larger than they are in the book - the longest edge is 14 cm. Their catalogue number (e.g. "pp123") refers to the page in the original Faber edition on which the image appears.
